Actors Who Played Real Musicians

Johnny Cash

While there are many fine actors who have played real people, only a handful have played musicians and done it well.  Now, there are a few more when considering musicians like Mozart, but I’m talking about musicians and singers that we all recognize and can tell if the actors have captured that person or not.  I’m no expert but I imagine it’s very difficult to portray a musician (who’s obviously very good or there wouldn’t be a biopic at all) and do it convincingly enough that all of their fans love the film.  After seeing Cate Blanchette nominated for her portrayal of Bob Dylan, I thought I’d list a few of my faves.

Val Kilmer at the Comanche Moon Premiere

Val Kilmer

I don’t know why so many bloggers keep saying he looks bad.  I think he looks great.  But, that’s not what’s important.  He’s a wonderful actor and I bet he’s great in Comanche Moon.

Val Kilmer’s Treehouse

Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer has commissioned a great treehouse on his New Mexico property.  Artist, Roderick Romero put it together for him.  There’s something very appealing about a man who will hang out in a treehouse.

I’ve Been Enjoying the Maxim Lists

So, I had a nice visit at Maxim Online today and found some really cool lists.  I’ve posted my favorites below.

9 Smartest Dumb Guys

Maxim online has compiled a list of the 9 smartest dumb guys in film.  These guys are excellent at playing morons but are actually highly intelligent.  Check it out.

Jeff Daniels in “Dumb and Dumber”

Most Extreme Body Makeovers

These actors put their bodies through Hell for certain roles and we appreciate their sacrifice.  (Well, most of them anyway).  And I cannot believe they didn’t mention Jared Leto gaining like 60 lbs. for “Chapter 27”.  Such egregious oversights shall not be tolerated. :)

Christian Bale

Hottest Women of Horror Movies

No need to explain this one, but be sure to read the descriptions.  The writers at Maxim online have a great sense of humor.

Sherrie Moon Zombie

Beyond Their Years

This archive lists actors who have played parts much younger than their actual years and in most cases have done it very well.

Ashton Holmes in “A History of Violence”

Most Memorable Teen Nerds

I love a nerd.  This list has some of the best ever committed to film.

The King, Louis Skolnick from “Revenge of the Nerds” played by Robert Carradine

Actors Imitating Actors

This is an interesting category.  I actually hadn’t realized they were imitating other actors.  Perhaps Maxim is being facetious.  Go figure.

Heath Ledger in “Lords of Dogtown” and Val Kilmer in “The Doors”

Val’s Back!

Val Kilmer as Mason Lancer on Numb3rs

It was a brief appearance but much anticipated by Val Kilmer fans everywhere.  As you may recall, Mom, one of my first entries on this blog involved the paps going after people because they had become heavier.  That really pissed me off because actors and actresses act regardless of their size.  Val was picked on that week so I mentioned him in my post.  However, I would just like to point out….again….that weight goes up and weight goes down, but actors are always actors.  So to all of the viscious bloggers out there who just had to “go there”…pphhhhttt!  Val is looking great and his acting is as perfect as it always was.

And Speaking of Constant Criticism…

Can we please just stop picking on people with a little weight on them?  In fact, let’s stop picking on people with a lot of weight on them.  Let’s face it, most of America is overweight.  Why this need to point out a few extra pounds on people just because they’re famous?  Look at Val Kilmer, here.  He’s a great looking guy and a very talented actor.  Who cares if he’s a bit heavier?  This was all over the net today and the comments on most blogs favored Val, not the blogger.  Everyone loves him and could care less.  If you didn’t catch him in “Alexander”, go and rent it now (and yes, he was heavier in that film).
