What’s Cillian Doing These Days?

Cillian Murphy

So I bought “Sunshine” on DVD last week.  It was an excellent movie if you like that sci-fi stuff (and I do).  Cillian Murphy played the lead (Robert Capa).  The next night I caught “Batman Begins” on T.V.  Once again, there’s Cillian as Dr. Crane (the Psycho Scarecrow dude).  I thought, jumpin’ jehosophat, that dude is everywhere.  Couldn’t help myself and had to look up his imdb page.  He has a LOT going on.  He has five films in the works including “Hippie Hippie Shake” with Sienna Miller.  He’s in “The Dark Knight”, the next Batman, and I assume he’s Dr. Crane again.  That should be really good.  He’s starring with Sam Neill in another sci-fi flick called “Telepathy” (I must see that).  He’s come a long way since “28 Days Later” and rightly so.

What’s Claire Doing These Days?

Claire Forlani

I watched a Claire movie last night and as usual it got me thinking…
So let’s see, looks like Claire’s had a recurring role on “CSI: NY” as Dr. Peyton Driscoll.  I don’t generally watch those but my mom loves ‘em so I’ll have to check with her.  She is working on a new film called “Crossmaglen” which imdb describes as:

IRA gunner Dermot McGarvey is a hunted man - by both the British and his own. In hiding on a Christmas Eve stakeout to ambush British soldiers, Dermot accidentally kills a mother and her two young children. This action begins a downward spiral that takes McGarvey through the no-go area of Armagh through the divis of Belfast . Who can you trust when you’ve run out of options? Who lives and who will ultimately die for their sins? Life as a SHAMROCK BOY is never easy. Written by Aegis Film Group

That sounds good.  Thora Birch also stars in this one.  Sounds like an Irish Indie film but I don’t know for sure.  I do know that it sounds plenty watchable and I’ll be glad to see Claire in a film like this.  I’ve missed her.

Joe Receives A Helmet

The Jonas Brothers and Ellen Degeneres

On her show, Ellen ribs Joe Jonas for his well publicized injuries and presents him with a helmet.  I love her sense of humor and kudos to the Jonas Brothers for being able to laugh about it.  Really, what else can you do?

George Clooney - Peacekeeper

No, not the Farscape type of Peacekeeper, the U.N. type.  I think he’s done plenty for Darfur to get that title.  Let’s hope he continues to do his thing.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon named actor George Clooney, who has campaigned for refugees in Darfur, as a U.N. “messenger of peace” on Friday to promote the world body’s peacekeeping efforts.

Clooney is the ninth U.N. messenger — people chosen from the fields of art, music, literature and sports who have agreed to help focus attention on the United Nations’ work.
U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said Clooney would have a special emphasis on peacekeeping. She said he had been “recognized for focusing public attention on crucial international political and social issues.”

Clooney, who is currently in Sudan , will receive his designation on January 31 at U.N. headquarters.

With fellow actors Don Cheadle and Brad Pitt, Clooney, 46, has used his celebrity status to raise money for refugees through their “Not On Our Watch” charity and draw attention to the crisis in Darfur in western Sudan .
The United Nations is trying to deploy a peacekeeping force in Darfur , where international experts say some 200,000 people have been killed and more than 2 million driven from their homes in fighting between Sudan ’s government and Darfur rebels.

Another Role For Zac

Zac Efron

There’s so much news about Mr. Efron lately that this blog is slowly but surely becoming the Zac Blog.  But, he seems a cool enough guy and I like passing on good news (well maybe not the appendectomy, but it’s mostly good news).

Not too long ago everyone was predicting he had a bright future in film and it looks like they were right.  Today it would appear that he’s got yet another movie in the works.

Zac Efron (“High School Musical” films) will star in Me and Orson Welles, an adaptation of the period coming-of-age novel by Robert Kaplow that Richard Linklater will direct, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Set in 1937, the story centers on a high school student (Efron) who, while strolling the streets of New York, happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is noticed by its mercurial founder, Orson Welles. The man lands a bit part in “Julius Caesar,” the production that catapulted Welles to the top, and spends the next week learning about life and love.

Newcomer Christian McKay will play Welles. Ben Chaplin (The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep) has been cast as English film and stage actor George Coulouris.

The script was written by Holly Gent Palmo, who was a production coordinator on Linklater’s Dazed and Confused, and Vince Palmo, who was first assistant director on several of the helmer’s films.

Efron then will shoot “Welles” in mid-February and March in such locales as New York, London and the Isle of Man, whose Gaiety Theatre is being booked for the production.
